Which media types can be protected by SafeGuard Media for WordPress?

  • Images - gif, jpg, jpeg and png.
  • PDF - normal .pdf documents.
  • Video - all .mp4 videos files.

File Storage

Media files can be stored on your website or a file sharing service like DropBox. DropBox is recommended above most because it doesn't hide the file link behind a layer of nonsense designed for advertising. Another good file service is Amazon.

Media Services

Video services like Vimeo cannot be used here because direct access to the video file is required for it to be displayed in an embedded player that copy protects the video.

Link Protection

Regardless of whether your file is stored on your website or a file sharing service, its real location is protected at all times. That location cannot be discovered by search engines, packet sniffers, downloaders or by view of page source.

Copy Protection

Your media will be most securely copy protected from all methods of copy including save, download, PrintScreen and screen recording.

We have a lot of WMV video files but I see MP4 only is mentioned above. How can we protect WMV?

While WMV is a convenient file type for video, the embedded player that SafeGuard Media uses is served from our server so it needs to be standardised for everyone... MP4 only which is more modern and good for high quality, fast download and more efficient buffering. There is a lot of software available to convert WMV to MP4.

However if you have a lot of video files and they are large file sizes, then you may better off using ASPS on your own server. For more info see https://safeguard.media/server-protection.asp
