Is there a limit on file size of the media (PDF or video) that can be uploaded/protected?

Generally speaking, there is no size limit because the files are delivered from your website or file service.
That is, with the exception of PDF, because of the security limitations regarding PDF viewed across different websites, when you nominate a PDF as the file to protect, instead of using the link to your website/server, the PDF is downloaded and saved to the SafeGuard server. Consequently there will be a size limit for PDF and anyone with PDF larger than 50 MB needs to research how to optimise PDF content. In most cases over-sized PDF can be the result of not optimising images. For example, computers cannot display any finer resolution than 96 DPI, so why include images that are 300 DPI? Also, images taken from a mobile phone or digital camera can be 3000-4000 pixels wide, yet most computer screens will only be 800-1200 pixels wide, and mobile phones even less.
Another point to note with images is "quality settings" and if you have image software like Photoshop, compare the file size of a highest quality image to the same image saved at 80% quality and notice that there will be no noticeable difference in viewing quality, yet there will be a dramatic difference in file size. |

File size should always be considered, regardless of file type, because the viewer's experience is most important. If videos are too high quality their file size will be larger and their download slower. Viewing high quality video that is not regulated by the server to suit the user's connection speed can result in lag and timeouts, resulting in a bad experience for the viewer.
Width and height of the video should also be considered because if most of your subscribers are using mobile phones, then your video does not need to be as wide as it might be for a desktop screen. By reducing the width of the video original, you can dramatically reduce file size for faster downloads, etc. |
